Sony Reverses Decision To Close PS3 & PS Vita Stores

Fans were left unhappy when Sony revealed that they would be closing the PlayStation Store for both the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Vita. But Sony has now reversed that decision after what it says was a “wrong decision”.

The previous decision meant that players would no longer be able to purchase digital copies of games or downloadable content for their PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Vita.

However, they would still be able to download and play any previously purchased games and media. In-game transactions would also have been impacted when the stores closed.

PlayStation 3 and Vita owners will be happy to hear the news, with official confirmation from Sony arriving today. The official announcement on the PlayStation blog also laid out the main reasons as to why Sony wanted to end purchasing support for both the PS4 and Vita, with a “number of factors, including commerce support challenges for older devices and the ability for us to focus more of our resources on newer devices” being a focal point.

The passion from fans was clear to Sony and therefore it was an easy process for Sony to “find a solution to continue operations”.

Are you happy with the reversal from Sony? And will you be going out and making any more purchases for your PlayStation 3 or Vita? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
